This refined Art Deco bar brooch by A.J. Hedges & Co. is set with five rectangular step cut green tourmalines totaling approximately 4.75 carats and four square step cut sapphires weighing approximately 1.20 carats in total. The stones are mounted in 14 karat yellow gold, bearing the maker’s mark of the noted New York firm.
Founded in the late 19th century, A.J. Hedges & Co. became known for its finely constructed gold and platinum jewelry that balanced precision with vibrant color. The linear composition and alternating hues of this brooch exemplify the Art Deco fascination with symmetry and contrast, while the restrained gold mounting enhances the sharp geometry of the step cuts.
